Born in Hong Kong to a middle class family Donnie was a well adjusted and athletic child who led a happy life. His mother, a loving but melancholy woman, died tragically in a car accident when he was small leaving the young man despondent and listless. His father, who was a firm believer that mastering the body and mind leads to enlightenment, took Donnie to his first martial arts school. The young man took to the training quickly and became known as a child prodigy of Kung Fu mastering multiple styles with ease.
What Donnie did not realize was that his father was actually a distinguished member of the Triads. This news was quite shocking but Donnie eventually came to accept it. He was reluctant but as a teenager he became more and more involved with his father’s business. For several years he worked alongside his father carrying out low level tasks for him. What he didn’t realize was that his father shielded him from the more brutal aspects of the family business. When Donnie was still in high school they moved to Night City so that his father could take over a position there. The transition to the new position was a bit rough. Donnie’s father had taken over the local Triads in the region from a former boss who had fallen out of favor. The war between the two factions increased in intensity and violence spilled into the streets. Donnie became the target of several attacks but he was able to handle them easily with his advanced martial arts skills. It was during this time that Donnie learned a horrible truth.
STORY TITLE: THE DRAGON OF PARKHURST ALLEY
He had received an anonymous package that had irrefutable proof that his father had had his mother killed. Apparently his father had only married her for her connections to the Triad and she had become dissatisfied with her lot in life and had wanted a divorce. A prideful man he would not allow that. He had manufactured the car accident and taken Donnie’s mother from him. Enraged at this betrayal Donnie attempted to kill his father but was driven off. His father put a price on his head and Donnie was hounded and hunted by the very men he had been groomed to lead. But his father had completely underestimated his son who turned out to have far better knowledge of the Triads and their business than he would have believed. He began to systematically dismantle their infrastructure in the region becoming a folk hero to those who had long been oppressed by the Triads. He became the “Dragon of Parkhurst Alley” after he decimated a Triad brute squad that had been sent there to remove tenants from their longtime homes saving many lives and costing the Triads millions.
